Cairngorms Gateway Centre in Blair Atholl

The NEW Cairgorms National Park Gateway was created during 2012. There have been some very significant changes to what was once the Atholl Estates Rangers hut and the old Blair Atholl School play ground.

The old Blair Atholl School meal hall, later the Atholl Estates Rangers hut has been transformed in to the maginificent Cairngorm Gateway Information Centre. It is full of information, as well as activities for the youngsters, Free WiFi and a warm fire in winter, cosy chairs too.

The car park is currently being upgarded (as I type this) so it is a top notch facility. It was difficult to turn in on the old car park, so a new bend is being installed with a larger parking area, carefully laid out.

For those of you who are interested in the outdoors and would like some excellent information on the area, its wildlife, the walk and cycle routes, red squirrels, should visit the Cairngorm Information Centre, it is opened and closed each night by the Atholl Estate Rangers.

The Atholl Estates Rangers are part funded by the Estate, and by Scottish Natural Heritage .

The Atholl Estates Rangers operate all year round, with one full-time ranger and 2 seasonal rangers. They assist visitors in their understanding and enjoyment of the area, and manage 9 waymarked trails for walkers and cyclists on the estate.

The Cairgorms Information Centre was fully refurbished in 2012. It is located in Blair Atholl village, opposite the entrance to the Blair Castle Caravan Park, next to the Atholl Country Life Museum and 'Food in the Park' (Cafe, Fish and Chips and Pizza Restaurant).

The Cairngorm Information Centre has a number of features, which include displays and offers some activities for children. There is also information on what to do in the area, making the Centre a helpful reference point if you are planning any outdoor activities.

The centre is open from 9.00am to 4.45pm daily, between Easter and October.
